Councillor Michael Fryers

Who Am I

I was born in Lichfield (Victoria Hospital).  Educated at St Josephs, and Lichfield Central School.  I have lived and worked in Lichfield all my life, the last 40 years in North Lichfield.  I have two sons Michael and Robert, three grandchildren Aimee, Clive and Alfie, all of whom I am extremely proud of.

I have always been interested in Politics, but it was not until I accepted early retirement that I felt I could devote the time to become a Local Councillor.  And in 2003 I was lucky enough to be elected, and I hope I can live up to the expectations of the Chadsmead Residents.

Spending time playing with my Grandchildren.

Armchair fan of sport, and taking time out as a trained walk leader to lead on the regular Age Concern walk and talk programme in Lichfield,  this I thoroughly enjoy.

My Biography

I was elected to both Lichfield District and Lichfield City Councils in May 2003,  and re-elected to both councils in May 2007 and I am delighted and proud to be able to serve the residents of Chadsmead Ward. 

I am a member of the following District Council committees:-

People & Partnerships Overview & Scrutiny, Environment & Development Overview & Scrutiny, Lichfield Advisory Group.

  I also represent the District Council on the following Outside Bodies, Lichfield District Council for Voluntary Service,  North Lichfield Initiative Board and the NLI Transport and Environment Topic Group ( Chairman)

I am a member of the following City Council  committees.

A Volunteer Walk Leader for Age Concern.

I was born in the village of Brampton, Huntingdonshire in1947 and after leaving Leeds University, where I studied Fuel Science, I joined what is now ExxonMobil, the American Oil Company.

After a few years working as a petroleum chemist I moved to the retail side of the company where I was a manager for 33 years, electing for early retirement in 2005 after 38 years service.

Married for 43 years to Penny, we have two sons, both living locally, one a chartered accountant and one a medical representative. I have four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.

I have lived in the area for 37 years, the last 25 in North Lichfield.

Politics!

I am  a Past President of my Rotary Club and currently Vice President.

Grandchildren, but only in small doses!

Walking.

Foreign banknote collecting, which gives me an excuse for my love of travel.

My Biography

I was elected to both Lichfield City and Lichfield District Council in a by-election in December 2005 and re-elected to the City Council in 2007 and I am delighted and proud to serve the electors of Chadsmead Ward where I live.

I am a member of the following committees on the City Council:

The Beacon Street Residents Association.

My mission, for which I was elected, is to not only help residents with individual problems, but also to improve the area and lives of everyone in North Lichfield, where I live.

I was the Sheriff of Lichfield for the year 2007/8 and, among other duties, led the Annual Sheriff's Ride, when I rode 22 miles around the City boundary on horseback with 75 other riders.

I am currently Mayor of Lichfield for the year 2009/10 and am very proud to have this opportunity to serve all the residents of the City of Lichfield by upholding the Civic traditions, supporting the many local societies, charities and other organisations and representing the City.
